Description

The listing, Antique, primitive, folk art,? has ended.

I am thinking this Item would fit all the above categories. It's very old, hand made out of 6 pieces of hammered brass, and very rustic/primitive. I don't want to clean or polish it as that might hurt it's value. It's about 3 1/4" in diameter, and 4" tall. The design on it reminds me of something Aztec or Mayan, not that old though as it's made of brass and solder. Very unique! The pics look like copper but it's quite tarnished, especially on the inside.
I have been just informed(and verified)the design is actually an Aztec calendar,Thanks to AmethystSynn :)

US bidders, please note that we are dealing with 2 separate postal services,it seems 2 weeks is average delivery to US destinations,Patience is appreciated.

ok me and a friend of mine went over your photo's and after close look at them it is very simple to tell what you have, and yes a big time dealer would tell you its a nothing to get it for a nothing. I am sure your setting down cause what you have is the real deal a pice that is from the 17th century with out even holding it to look at it up close you can tell by the photos of how they had to place all parts to make it a one that means it is the real old lead solder, cause if everone would look at the photos correct you can tell by how they kinda had to work with it fast pice by pice and make it into the one so when the lead solder was not to dry on the tell the work was compleated to be one of the old master pice's they could make.. So what you have can be sold for any place depending on the buyer $5,000.00 too $25,000.00 or a lot more. You should have had that placed into a big time auction site....

The solder is definitely lead and I have some research that confirms what you just said,Monday I'm meeting with an expert on this and I will see just exactly what I do or do not have. I'm thinking this brass could be gold.

This was known over fifty years ago, but the present generation lost that knowledge ... Some time ago, most electronics were soldered with old-fashioned lead solder, ... I should point out that if it is lead solder you would be giving something away that is worth big $$$$ because the first uses of lead were around 3500 B.C.. These metals were known to the Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Greeks and the Romans. ... In the early days all three steps were carried out simultaneously. ... only kings and royalty had such tools; it would take another 500 years before they .... and the alloys bronze and electrum were the starting point of metallurgy... What you have is very nice I would half to see it in person to tell a little more about it cause of the Aztec calendar on it. the date's would not match. one that does match is the solder lead ? if so then it is worth more than you think. How ever you do half to watch out for a lot of people that make things now to look old as well, and it can be done very simple. all in over a nice thing to have !

From Yahoo Answers--

I build french horns, they are all soldered together. If you can't solder brass you have one of 2 problems: The area isn't clean or the temp is too low.
Sandpaper or steelwool the area to be soldered, put on a little liquid flx and solder away. If you are using a soldering iron or gun the pieces may be too big for it and not getting hot enough... they spread the heat away from the joint. I use a Liquid flux, solid 60/40 solder and a small blow torch.

Just my opinion, it looks like this is an older mexican souvenier made by a mexican person not a Mayan. But ya never know.

Oh it also looks copper to me only because of the green looking tarnish spots inside the cup. I don't believe brass turns green.
