Carolyn Hardy, a workaholic engineer and a daughter of one of Atlanta's finest African American families, is not impressed when she meets pro-football player Michael Hennessey at a bank, and refuses to go out with him. Two years later she is coerced into participating in a dating auction for charity, where Michael wins her company for the evening with an outrageous bid. Now a free agent, he has moved to Atlanta with his orphaned niece and nephew, whom he is in the process of adopting. Carolyn finds it hard to believe that he has turned over a new leaf, but she is attracted to him as she has never been attracted to anyone in the past. His old friend Rollie turns up and catapults Michael into bad company, placing his family in danger.
