Description

The listing, pre civil war 5.00 bill, shreveport Louisiana has ended.

This bill was patented 20 June 1857 by the Louisiana bank note co. The bill is numbered (626) dated 23 August 1860, and was never signed by either the bank president or treasurer. All bills were hand dated and signed in that era. There are many variations of this bill, you won't find it though, it is very unique. The front is green and in English, the reverse is orange and in French. It is a beautiful show piece, I have had offers from the mundane to darn, I should have sold that. I will GLADLY refund the buyers points if they are not satisfied. Sorry for the blurry pictures, I had to use my web cam. any questions, feel free to ask.....Charles105

kyleddy, I did not mean to sound so critical, I am sorry. Depending which city you live in you might just find a copy of his work, I mean when I say..the man spent a lifetime counting the variations and thier rarity. I didn't mean to offend if it was taken as such I am sorry.

This is a great piece . Thank you for listing it . Not sure who it was that said it , but i believe them to be correct ..." Those who fail to learn their history are doomed to repeat it ."

I have seen other bills in antique shops , and have been wanting one for my collection as well . I personally would be both proud and happy to have this piece in my collection . I have 6 grand kids that will definately be learning their history and this would make a wonderful peice to show them as well .
win or not , thanks for the opportunity for this .

Well I'll tell you, if it goes for anything like what I'm seeing now, some one just stole it like the north did the south, no offense intended to you northern folks.

Don't sweat it bud. This auction will go up no problem. Most of the high bids come in the last 5 hours of the auction. I have seen auctions that go up thousands and thousands in the last few seconds. its crazy stuff.

I did figure one way this individual is selling modern coins (ie..pre collector or 64) is glueing them on a pot, now it art!! To each his own I guess, but down here in the south a piece we call that cheating big time, screw art

To Emily 172, Thank you for caring about and wanting a true piece of our history. You may, god willing end up with this bill, I almost hope so. With all the negativity I have had concerning this piece (genuine piece) of history, in all your bidding you have gone on faith, well that and 10.00 helps if a qualified paper money collector or museum simply states it's fake. Which I assure you will not be done. we are losing our history so fast, almost like the Egyptian tomb robbers in thier day. All I can say, truly, is good luck !!

Thank you Emily, I wish others felt the same, ie to bid. This is a genuine piece of history it will never be again. The only ones who will have them, much less with a rare difference, will be big auction houses and big collecters. Good luck then ! This has shown me to only put things on here that you put out at a garage sale not precious things. When a bidder will pay more for stamps than a piece of history, thats a true shame. But thank you again Emily

Well K, I don't know about you but have you looked at the other things I put up ? not a bid in 3 days on any but this and 202 at that. If I could pull them I would, don't like giving things away that are unique, I won't say one of a kind because if you looked hard enough you probably could find them. I can understand the router I put up' local p/u only obviously the postage would be tremendous, but the bother things, its almost like give it to me free. I used to like Listia, it was fun, but after this I think it's time to call it quits !! But thanks for the encouragment

Folks, whats wrong ? I am surprised, you don't even think this is worth it's origional value ? This hass definately changed my mind about putting things on this site. I just watched some foreign coins sell for over 10,000 pts SHAMEFUL

I also have a "widows mite" (from the time of Christ, roughly 2000 yrs. old) sealed in plastic within a book which will explain what a widows mite is and what it means to Christianity. My problem is that if this bill has only gotten up to 202 pts. is it worth placing on the list. I don't want to give it away, as apparently I will be doing with this.

For those of you who would like to have a piece of our genuine past....here it is, they are going quickly, and by that I mean falling apart, bought up by huge auction houses that most would be asked to leave, at auctioned for more than most of our houses

No, not worth a "ton" of money but you know about 50 years or so ago there was a man named A.Burbage that made a life loong stdy of the differences within the same bills, I suggest you get a copy of his book, you will find variation upon variation in the same bill. So you may very wel only thgink you have. Nothing personal

Beg to differ, there are many varieties, this is a very unique variety, you would would have to see it then try to find it in the books. You won't

Yes of course, it will come on a standard bill protector,it is a bit bigger than the bill, so you have no problems with the bill sticking out. charles105

Yes it will, a standard bill protector, it is worth it, I wish it could be found in a book, don't get me wrong there are many variations in books just not this particular one, especially numbered, daated, but never signed.

javanw, No offense taken. I hate charlatans too. The problem is there are too many, EVERYWHERE. This is truly a museum piece, I thought about offering to one but you know, they have huge budgets for aquisitions and would be as stingy as a raped ape. I know I wont get 1/10 of it value ,if that. But I like listia, only place of it's kind I know of. I have to admit though that it would kill me to see it go for 102 pts. (no offense) at least you are bidding. /go to the library, get a book on civil/pre civil war paper money, and believe me there were alot, you will not find the exact bill which makes it so rare, especially when its dated, numbered, but not signed. That has myself but many other cllectors I know perplexed. The important thing is that it is REAL. period

Certainly didn't mean to offend you. Just wanted to know is all. There are certainly some on Listia who would have offered copies or forgories (sp?). I am VERY interested in this!!! Thanks for sharing the REAL thing!

I know I responded to this question, but listia says I didn't sooooo. I understand your concerns, if you take this to a reputable paper money specialist (civil war era) and they say different, In writing , on co. letterhead with thier address and number on it , to me, I will not only give you your credits back but ten dollars as well for your trouble. Folks, for those of you who doubt it's authenticity, if you buy it and a qualified numismatist not pawn shop, not coin shop, a dealer in paper money states in writing that this is fake or a forgery I will not only give your credits back I will give you 10.00 as well, remember, some one who deals in civil war paper money or maybe a museum in a letter.making a signed statement from thier business that is is fake or otherwise.
