fast growing deep red plant that can easily get to (and over) 6 feet in one season. The young leaves can be used as a spinach subsitute. very healthy for you, the seeds can be ground up and used as a very nutritious. flour. Aprox 50 plus seeds. Very high germination. rate. Takes up space basically becomes a tree do not plant infront of a plant in front of other sun loving plants, it will take up all the sun. enjoy, once u plant i doubt u will ever need more seed again.

Where abouts is your aprox 5half area. Cuz I lived in lower ny, and I think in that area def during the summer if u got a good sunny area for most of the day they would most likely go all the way to seed. Cuz theycan deal with cool weather soong as they get sun during the day. But i should look it up to be sure. Ill get back to you shortly. Hopfully with an answer.

I cant be sure if your ipstate Id say no, if your in southern ny during the warm summer with lots of light, but if it has a winter that cools quickly I did read its a bit tender to the cold. So I cant be sure youd have a proper season. Definitely. not it your upstate.

Can be grown anywhere it's an annual. Most people cut it at about 2-3 FT for salads ect. and will get a second cutting later. You'd need a ton of this to make flour ect out of it , but use as a vegetable just a few will do.

thank you for clearing that up. Its true it takes tons (not literally but almost) of seed (that is a real pain to winnow and get all the plant out of the seed) you need to make flour Thanks for the more accurate description of what modern people use it for.
