The listing, Lane Mini Cedar Hope Chest Miniature Keepsake Trinket Box Milton Oregon has ended.
Beautiful miniature hope chest in excellent condition! Love the cedar pattern in this one. Measures 9" by 4 1/5" by 4" tall I am unsure of the age but these were made from 1925 until l the mid 80's. Came from the Munselle Co of Milton Oregon I can find no reference to them by doing a Google search. I do not have the key.
Questions & Comments
Everyone in our graduating class received one of these from the Lane Company. Almost 40 years ago. I still have it.
Yowza! What perfect Listian Auction. Thanks. Just had my 50th @ North Phoenix . Still didn't get one. Only went there 1 year. Spent 11 years in the Seattle School System. Hope to attend Queen Anne '65. We'll see. lol njoy best auction ever.
I also have one I received from the local Lane furniture dealer. I graduated in '89 and live in Southwest Virginia, all graduating girls in the area were given one.. My daughter who graduated last year did not get one. It is such a special keepsake.
my gramma had one from when my aunt graduated in the 70s i have it now have the key and keep my diploma and tassle in it with a letter from my gramma the day she sent it to me i graduated in 05 i recieved the box in 2008 when she passed the box is older then me and in some ways still smells like my grandmas home
my niece will get it when she turns 18 and graduates from marshal high in Portland OR until then it keeps my graduate stuff i bought a new one at an antique store from the 40s which is when my gramma graduated so that i can have one that will still hold those awesome memories and i found an onld bottle of her perfume to keep with it for my memories of being rasied by her
mom had one . I got it when my mom pass away . I gave it to my son in memery of his grandmother to put his change in it . I never know the history . But she lived in Albion New york . They had a lane brother clothes store that is not there any more
I STILL HAVE MINE and I rec'd it in 1974 when I graduated from Hamilton High West in Trenton, NJ. After seeing this, I took mine out of "storage" because it surely brought back very fond memories. I think I should tell my daughter the story so she'll hold on to it. Thanks for evoking such great conversation here! A couple years after I graduated my Mom purchased a large one for me and my HOPE CHEST was filled with a lot of goodies for when I was married in 1984. My daughter rec'd this one but is still not married yet and she stores blankets and that sort of stuff in hers. I can still smell that wonderful aroma!
I am loving the comments. My mother (now 78) got one for her graduation in the baltimore md area. She has always stored buttons in it for sewing. Figured somehow I would get one when I graduated but that was not the case so I have purchased several over the years and use them for different small bits storage in my house. The smell is so awesome. Great auction.
Info Lane provides FREE replacement locks for their standard cedar chests I wonder if they would for one of these... they did that because children could inadvertently get locked in a large cedar chest...
Beautiful Box, Always have loved Cedar, funny after reading all the comments on here First I have to say Hello to a fellow Oregonian, and I Live in Milwaukie, Oregon, and yes it is spelled differently. In fact spell check, says the spelling of Milwaukie is wrong, lol ...go figure. Absolutely a Beautiful auction!!!
I was one of the last graduating classes to receive one of these. I graduated from Guymon, OK high school in 1979. I had a friend graduate 3 years later, & each student was required to pay $50.00 in order to get one. The way I understand it, the company started charging in 1982.
I have one from 1974 (high school graduation gift from the local furniture store). I still use it. Love it. This auction brought back fond memories, TY! :D
The Lane company made these and handed them out to the girls of the graduating classes of the Portland High schools My mother had one as she graduated from Franklin High it was lost when my parents moved I have one that I got off of here and am looking for another to replace the one my mother lost and this is the way you spell Milwaukie Oregon (I grew up here)
Only the girls of my graduating class got one in 1990. I still have mine and the key. I wonder if it works in every box or if they were interspersed? Maybe 10 different locks made and each box has one of those 10 locks??? Just guessing.
