BRILLIANT RED-ORANGE HERB FROM THE MINT FAMILY
DRAMATIC GARDEN BACKDROP ~ 5-8 FOOT STALKS WITH FUZZY BLOOMS!
You'll want to place this majestic perennial where height is not an issue but a flair for the dramatic is absolutely required!
Wild Dagga has interrupted clusters of fuzzy, bright red-orange flowers, aptly named "lion's ear" by local Bushman, as the blooms appear to 'lay-in-wait' from within the green foliage of its pleasantly scented leaves supported on tall 5-8' square stemmed spikes. Adding to its visual delights, this stately shrub is also a hummingbird, butterfly and bee magnet.
For thousands of years, most notably within South African tribes, the majestic Wild Dagga, has boast a multitude of folkloric uses and purposes. Most commonly, the flowers and leaves were/are dried and used to make a calming and relaxing tea for the relief of headaches, pain and inflammation. A 2005 study of Leonotis leonurus, by the University of KwaZulu, concured with the ancient diagnostic uses of the wild mint, while adding the discovery of beneficial properties for the onset of type-2 diabetes.
