The listing, Sports Illustrated-The Super Bowl: Sport's Greatest Championship [Hardcover] has ended.
The super bowl started rather small, but is now the biggest event in American sports. There are many valid arguments about which was the most significant game, but to me there is no question that it was number 3. In the first two super bowls, the NFL champion Packers totally destroyed their AFL opponent. However, in game 3, the AFL Jets dominated the NFL Colts, removing the notion that the NFL was the better league.
There have been many memorable super bowl moments in the first thirty-two years, and in this collection, the organization is by quarters. The first quarter is a summary of ten of the most exciting super bowls, the second a brief description of ten of the most dominant or influential teams to play in the super bowl; the third quarter lists 20 of the players whose super bowl performance was outstanding and the fourth quarter is a photographic summary of the games. Since the halftime show has now become such a spectacle, there is a section devoted to that as well.
I witnessed most of the events captured in this book and it was a joy to relive them. Even when the game is decided early, there is something magical about the super bowl and much of that dazzle and drama is captured in this book.
