Questions & Comments
This looks like an old family portrait of two sisters dressed in white and two brothers in their Sunday suits. The more well-to-do families had these made into postcards to send to relatives and friends rather than sending photos. Not sure why, but they were very popular. The white dresses did not photograph well and were often over-exposed in an effort to bring out the detail in the rest of the picture, which is dark. The back ground also helped to blend the white of the dresses into obscurity in this picture. I love it! Especially the huge hair bows the girls are wearing that were all the rage back then for young ladies. The dress of all of these children is very typical of the fashion of that era. The girls' dresses were known as midi's, with a long bodice ending in a skirt that started at the hips and hung down about 4" below the knees. If you have ever seen the Disney movie "Pollyanna", you will see the style of dress there that I am talking about. This is a wonderful picture! Thanks so much for listing it!!!
