The listing, You Can Say "No" Hardcover 1985 by Betty Boegehold (Author), Carolyn Bracken (Illustrator has ended.
Depicts children in various situations involving adults who attempt to molest them and discusses ways of preventing or dealing with such behavior.
remember my mother reading this book to me and my sisters when I was a child. Each of the scenarios were the exact scenarios that young children encounter on a daily basis. The book has stories that are short, easy to understand, and accompanied by colorful and ethnically diverse illustrations, which I found helpful. Even if a child is too shy to talk about something that may have happened, this book lets them know they are not alone and that they can speak up. Sometimes it's powerful for the child to only have to say, "that happened to me too".
I still have my original copy of this book. It is old, tattered, and has drawings on the blank pages. This tells me that my sisters and I had contact with this book at a very young age. So many people are reluctant to have the difficult discussions. I wholeheartedly believe that this book had an impact on me and my cautiousness as a child.
I admit that I do not have children. But I already bought a brand new copy of the book so that I can share it with my child when the time comes. I have also purchased copies for my friends who are expecting or already have children. This is a great tool to help parents educate and protect their kids.
