Description

The listing, Asus Notebook Laptop-Needs Fixed has ended.

This Asus is a cute little Notebook laptop that worked perfectly fine until a couple of weeks ago, when it suddenly wouldn't power on. It needs a hard drive and a charger. The screen, battery and keyboard are in good shape. There are NO missing or stuck keys. There are NO loose or broken hinges. I bought the Asus about 6 months ago from a friend, who said she had it about a year. It is an Asus Model x-401U. It is slim, compact and lightweight. It measures 13.5" x 9.48" x 1.18" and weighs 3.88 pounds. It has a 14 inch display and 4 gigabytes of ram. It has the touchpad which works fine. This could be a good deal for someone who knows how to fix computers. Thanks for looking and happy bidding.

so you took the hard drive out of it and there isn't a battery either? so you are selling this as a barebones system, and don't know what is needed to get it to work again IF it can be made to work again, is that about the jist of it?

The battery is there and works fine. I stated that in the second sentence of my description above. I took the hard drive out and replaced it with another hard drive that I know works, and it still will not power on. I'm not a computer tech so I don't know what the problem is. No one is being forced to bid on this system. I have another computer and am not going to waste the time trying to fix or get this one fixed. I put it up for auction because some people know how to fix them. Some people work on computers at home and may be able to use it for parts if nothing else. I hope I have answered your questions to the best of my ability. If you have any further questions, I'll do my best to answer.

And by all of this....I mean the charging circuit internally. It's not an actual power supply, but that is easier for most to understand. Just in case some know-it-all decides to come in and act like I'm an idiot, lol

I'm not too familiar with the inner workings of a laptop so I'm sure you probably know more than I do.

Last question.....I know it's missing the charger, as you stated, but I'm assuming you were charging it before? Does it show any lights or anything when connecting that charger now? And if you were using a charger from another computer, did you ensure the ratings matched? The one that works with this is 19V 65W 3.42A. If you used a different charger than those specs, that could have fried the power supply and anything else that may have burned up.

Actually, I was using a universal charger at the time that the computer stopped powering up. I ordered a new charger for the laptop but they sent me the wrong one, and I had to send it back. I finally received the new charger a couple of days ago. I forgot to add it to the listing. So the computer will come with the proper charger for it.

Hi Darlene, you can try this out to know if this release any static electricity on the computer. Without plugging the power cord on its port, try to take out the battery and do the following:

(without the battery in its slot and power adapter not plugged)
1. Press the power button for at least 30 seconds. Do not release pressing the button until you reach 30 seconds.
2. Put the battery back into its slot.
3. Power on the laptop. If it powered on while the battery is on its slot, make it go through the usual routine, coming on to windows and then turn it off by turning it off the usual way (clicking the windows button and clicking shutdown then wait till it totally off).
4. Plugged in the power adapter and this time, turn the computer using the power adapter already plugged to your wall outlet.

If it turns on with the battery on and power adapter plugged in, then you have release some static electricity stored in your computer which is the reason why it doesn't turn on.

I hope I explain it good since I am also confused with what I have said here. :-) But I hope its understandable. Thanks.

I'd definitely have to load it with a new OS then. I despise Vista with a passion lol. Despise windows 8, too, but at least next month everyone with win 7 or win 8 gets a free upgrade to Win10. Can you tell me any info on the other one you have? Size, speed, model? Definitely interested in winning this (and bidding accordingly), just want to estimate my repair costs first. My wife needs a new one for work since they won't buy one, so I want to go with the cheapest solution, which would mean winning one here and just fixing it lol. Thanks for the fast responses as well!

I understand what I mean. The hard drive with Vista on it is a Fujitsu. The model number is MHY2200BH. 200.0 GB

Thanks! What does this hard drive have for OS? Would there be any possibility of both hard drives just in case the included did burn? It sounds like the power supply may have fried. If that is the case, it can also sometimes fry the hard drive.

I believe you may be correct. The laptop came with Windows 7 Ultimate and that hard drive no longer works because I tried it in another computer. I cannot send the drive with Windows 8 because I am using it in another computer. I only have one other working hard drive and it is a Windows Vista. It does work and it does fit this computer.

What was the other hard drive you tried on it (did it have an OS?). Does anything light up at all or sound like it is trying to work?

The other hard drive was a WD Blue running Windows 8. No, nothing lights up or makes any sound. It seems as though it is not getting any power at all.

You're welcome. I will try to answer everything to the best of my ability. Yes, it did go out while I was using it. Then it would not power back on. That's why I think something shorted out. I really don't know though.
