The listing, 1963 Topps # 132 JACK HAMILTON (Phillies) EX-MT has ended.
Hamilton pitched 8 season in the majors, mostly as a fifth starter and long reliever. "Wild" but effective for most of his career, Hamilton is known infamously instead of famously: he was the pitcher who hit Red Sox superstar Tony Conigliaro in the eye with a pitch in August 1967, nearly killing Tony and sidelining him for 2 seasons. In essence, the pitch changed both players' fortunes, as neither recovered to form. Afraid to throw inside, Hamilton was out of baseball by 1969. Conigliaro made a comeback that was largely unsuccessful.
