You can check your profile status by logging into your account at xbox.com or from your xbox.

If SILVER: it should work as long as another TRIAL is not already active. If a code is active, wait for it to expire then try again.

You can check the code without redeeming on xbox and xbox.com I find xbox.com to be the best place so far to check a code, if it's valid, and exactly WHAT it is. You then have the option to REDEEM or CANCEL and save it for later :)
