Description
The listing, 3/4+ Pound Raw Wool. Ready to Card has ended.
This is a more than 3/4 of a pound of raw wool, straight off the lamb and ready for the pioneer in you to begin to work your magic. I've already listed my most recently bought or used fibers and am digging into fibers I haven't looked at in awhile...most of which no longer have original packaging. So I'm making EDUCATED GUESSES on the fiber origin. I broke my scale a few days ago trying to replace the battery (it said "no user serviceable parts...") so I'm also guessing weights by comparing with items of known weight. Both fiber origin and weight should be pretty doggone accurate unless I specify otherwise. I accept PayPay for shipping and I combine shipping to give you the lowest shipping possible. I always add delivery confirmation to large combined wins.
Questions & Comments
I'm not a spinner, but considering getting it for a present. Do you know what variety of lamb this is from? Does it just need to be carded and spun then, or something else? Sorry for my ignorance and thanks for putting this stuff up. It makes me want to start spinning!
Don't know variety of lamb...my seven year old said it was a pretty rainbow wooly lamb. I kinda liked his description. Just needs carded and it's ready to spin.
I didn't think to mention, but since this is raw it will need to be washed before carding unless you are an experienced spinner who prefers to spin "in the grease". Just follow these simple instructions: 1. Fill your washer with very hot water & add about a cup of liquid detergent that doesn't have conditioners or softeners in it. 2. Turn OFF the washer. 3. Gently put your wool in the washer tub & close the lid. Let the wool soak for about 45 minutes. 4. After 45 minutes turn washer to the end of the SPIN cycle. Spin the water out of wool. 5. Lift the fleece out and set it aside. 6. Fill the washer tub with very hot water again (no detergent this time. Put the wool back in and let soak for about 30 minutes. 7. Turn washer to the end of the SPIN cycle. Spin the water out of the fleece. At this point, sort out the wool that is clean enough to dry. If fleece is especially fine or dirty, you may need to repeat the wash and spin steps a few more times. This wool should not need to be washed more than once as it isn't dirty. Use hot water with about one-half cup of white vinegar and soak fleece 30 minutes for the last rinse, then spin it out. Spread the fleece to air dry on a towel or drying rack.
Here's a demo on how to use a drop spindle for those of you just getting started. I can send you another ling that shows you how to make one from a CD if you don't have a drop spindle.
