Description

The listing, MASSIVE Antique Foster Bros Buffalo Skinner/Butcher's Lamb Splitter Knife has ended.

MASSIVE Antique Foster Bros Buffalo Skinner/Butcher's Lamb Splitter Knife

weighs around 3 lbs.

It is a MASSIVE piece, to say the least, and was sold originally for splitting the carcasses of smaller livestock like lamb, veal, goat and sheep. WHAM! It's a style and size, though, that was widely carried by buffalo hunters in the years immediately following the Civil War

Its blade is stamped "FOSTER BROS., TRADE" and Mark 12 along with the company's arrow logo (may be hard to see in photos)

Comes with 12" blade (17-1/4" overall length) that is 9/32" thick, tapering towards point and pommel Handle

The entire piece is beautifully weathered and it just begs to be held. Though it has some considerable collector value, it would be a shame not to use it, if you're able. Carbon steel blades of this vintage can hold a razor's edge like no other and I have little doubt it could still do more than its share of butchering of game or livestock

If you're simply collecting Fur Trade items, you're in luck--this is a rare opportunity to add some authenticity and quality to your collection.

again this knife is very heavy.
