My husband was in the Army and was killed in Viet Nam and would love to have this in honor of him and being in the Army.

You should be able to request all your husband's medals through the VA. I have recently requested my father's and had no problems. There is no reason for a veteran or the wife of one to have to give any kind of currency (even credits) for what rightfully is theirs. He gave his life for it, you deserve to have it. All you have to do is call your local VA and explain what you want. They should help you.

Sorry, i am a disabled vet on a very fixed income. I am only asking shipping to reduce my costs. I will also accept 4 stamps mailed to me. Glad to see our young ones still interested in supporting their troops. Hoo Wah!

Would that work with other relatives such as grandfathers or even further down the line of the family tree?

I haven't tried that so I can't say from personal experience so I can't say for sure. The VA would be the place to give you that answer. If you have the soldier's social security or personal ID number, it shouldn't be a problem. I know that the VA has gotten a bad rep but I have had nothing but excellent experiences. Under the right to information act, you can request your family member's medical records and in their should be their personal ID number of on the DD214 if you have that. The military used that instead of social security numbers a while back. At least a generation back. But you need to start with the VA. If you go to www.va.gov they can give you telephone numbers for your local chapter. They can help you from there. Really hope that helps. And good luck. You should try it. You have a right to your family member's medals.
