We use to call this a frog when I was young. You sew it on a sweater or cape to hold it closed instead of a button.
It is like a hook and eye. Very nice on capes or whatever you just need one button on.

It is almost toward a gold. Like gold and tan mixed kind of shiny a little. Just a little bit darker than the picture. It is really beautiful.

It looks like a slightly dark tan. The picture is a little bit lighter than it is, but not much.
It looks kind of shinny like a mixture of gold and tan together.

Thanks. Color in photos viewed on a computer can be very deceiving, and I've noticed that sometimes my guess isn't even close. I would have guessed a gray, so I appreciate the info.

Not even near a gray. It is prettier than that. I just don't need it. I think my mother in law had it for years. She was 92. So I don't have any idea how old. I haven't seen them since I was a kid.
