It sure looks similar! I am not an expert - and I don't think it is a prickly pear. However, it does have hair - but it's the hair that is more purple rather than the underneath plant. But they are strikingly similar in appearance - so it could be. I wish I could give you a more definitive answer - I asked my nursery and they don't know the exact name either. They both are pretty though. I say buy what you love - and I love plants - esp. purple plants. So I have a nursery, and house - full of purple things. lol. Thanks for being so astute! xo - KEK

Is it naturally purple or has it been sprayed that color? Thanks!

Hey there. While I am not an expert, I believe it to be natural. I have several cacti in this color, and in red, orange, blue and purple shades that (green underneath) and grow colored hairs as part of their natural growth. Most of my cacti have lived since purchase. Thanks for your interest. KEK

You lost me. If your question is can I ship anywhere the answer is yes. I do not know what zone 5 is and am truly not sure what your question really is. Thanks - kEK

Does the new growth have the same color purple?

Hi and thanks for your interest. On my cacti, the new growth is green underneath with purple hair - sometime new stems can grow green without gaining the purple hair until later so new growth can look uncolored initially. Hope this helps. Thanks - KEK
