Just google "uses for Yucca" (AKA Soapweed) and find out all about this versatile plant!! You can use the roots to shampoo your hair, the leaves can be used in survival situations for cordage, etc...
Some of these pics are from the internet, some are of my own (I don't take care of mine and we have extremely rocky thin poor soil in the Ozarks, so mine don't look as good as they should!)

I live in AR so I have no idea how it will do in NJ, you can probably google it and find out. As the pictures above show, this is an outsie plant..

Please google yucca to find out if it will grow in your area, etc... i'm not an expert, i just have some seeds from my yucca.

I googled the plant to see what part you find the seeds in and when to collect them, it said the pod that grows after the flowers fall off is the seed pod. Collect when the pod is dried out and about to open up. You can google and find out ANYTHING! :)
