I do not eat them but the birds do. Not sure what they are good for. I planted them to put privacy around my property. They have a nice color in the winter. They look red against the snow. Thanks for asking!

Most of the tme, if the birds can eat something, so can you. I suspect that they would make good jams, jellies, and, syrup. Or for that matter, they could be used in cakes, pies, or, bread. I realize that even if I win, it would be a few years before they start producing, but, I'm patient.

They are fast growing. They can be at full height with in a few years. They can be trimmed about 2 foot of new growth with a notch on the end of the cutting and pushed into the ground after a heavy rain to make more plants. The best time for this is in the spring before the leaves come on the plant. I planted mine about 17 years ago. After they got bigger I used this method to make a privacy row them.
