Is this sort of in the middle of the series (being the "Sunwell Trilogy")? I don't know anything about this series and just want to know if there are other books before this series that I would need to read to understand the story.. thanks!

I'm pretty sure this was the first of the Warcraft manga that was put out; there's none before it. Each trilogy is kind of a standalone thing. Though if you play WoW you'll appreciate the characters and lore more.
