Although there is no 100% sure way to guarantee authenticity of many old or antique items, there are many factors to consider. The most important indicator is how much does it take to manufacture vs how much do they cost. In other words, would someone go to the trouble of making something with this level of detail for the price they fetch on today's market. These are old just not very rare. Every school age kid had at least one until the thirties, that's millions. Also tongue and groove joints, stitching, actual slate not blackboard painted wood is used on this example & the ageing of the actual wood is hard to fake.. Hope this helps.
