me too!! I didn't shoot him, I found his bones while out on a hike..somebody in the area had a bounty on him for killing their cattle..probably for the best though considering all the children in the area he would have mauled eventually
Are you certain this wasn't a dog someone took out and shot? If this is a timber wolf you could get into some really big trouble for having this skull, you and the winning bidder, they are still federally protected. It seems unlikely to be a timber because of the length of the skull which would be very small for one. If it was a coyote (some people call them brush wolves) you should be in the clear, but both the seller and bidder should check into local laws about owning skulls. Your local DNR office should be able to help you. My guess would be this is someone's pet dog they took out and shot. The bullet hole is a small caliber rifle, placed very precisely in a completely lethal spot.
Brandon, some states dont allow possession of skulls. Some do with a permit. Others just don't care. Just saying, whoever is looking into getting this should do some checking around. Also, it's not illegal to own a timber wolf skull IF it was legally harvested someplace that allows them to be killed, like Canada. There is no how and no way this was a legally harvested timber wolf in Ohio. Doesn't much matter, I'm pretty certain this is NOT wolf of any sort, the canines on it seem much too short, the molars are pretty small, the teeth are quite deteriorated compared to a wolf, or even a coyote. Feel bad for the person who puts this shelf on their mantle, who wants Fido's head on display for all to see... very sad.
