The 1969 New York Mets season was the eighth season for the Mets franchise, which played its home games at Shea Stadium. Managed by Gil Hodges, the team went 100-62, finishing first in the newly-established National League East by eight games over the Chicago Cubs. The Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves in a three-game sweep in the inaugural National League Championship Series for their first NL pennant. The Mets went on to win the 1969 World Series, where they defeated the American League champion Baltimore Orioles in five games.
