Description

The listing, Vintage "Elephant Bell" or "Tiger Bell" thank you youthguy has ended.

This is I believe solid brass and is so unique I almost didn't list it. ***I thought it was from Iran but check comments below" I found out from a fellow Listian "youthguy" some cool info on this bell.

and THANK YOU "youthguy"
check out his auctions also***

Anyway As you can see in the last couple pictures the top or handle part is actually broken but the remaining part of the handle is very strong.
Just thought it was a very cool piece especially how the bottom is like teeth.
This is very heavy bell. Very strong and sturdy.
The detail on the top of it is so pretty.

I will only ship to Listia Verified Addresses within the USA

********************************************UPDATE
I have changed information on this auction because I am just learning new info about it. While making changes I deleted the statement about the handle****IT IS BROKEN
It should have a round handle but it is broken********
PICTURE #5 shows up close***********

I have two fur babies and they are my constant companions (well except when it rains - they run to the walk in closet being they are such fierce, aggressive pit bulls!!!) lol not at all

So do you think this bell is from India and not Iran as I was told?
It makes no difference to me and you can say whatever on my auction - I am just happy to find out all the interested things that you know about this bell. Thanks.

Well, honestly I at first thought it was just shaped differently & that intrigued me. Then later I zoomed up & could tell it was cut off-broken-worn off. The size is larger than what I called my large ones and I like that as I sure don't have one this size. I know you wouldn't have left out the fact as sure you didn't know. I wouldn't have either if I didn't have so many of the India bells. I have a collection of wood-cut out heart vintage wall shelves of various sizes and the bells are just cut filling the many shelves. I'd hate to let it go too for the simple size of it and while I too have tried to stop hoarding-some things I can't resist & this is one of them...lol

Well, these are still very collectible & I just love all mine & the nice chimes...so, I am bidding regardless of the handle as it has had a long life and they definitely are strong bells.

Pretty claw bell. Most were made in India but I've not seen one with the unusual handle like this one. I have a collection of about 75 India brass bells-some claws small & large, some with a holder, but the top on this one is so interesting as I've only ever seen the round handle top. Great Auction!

Thank you for bringing that to my attention----PIC #5 original auction made statement of it being broken off on the sides of the handle....Handle is still strong and doesn't change the use or handling of the bell. In my opinion doesn't take away from it's unique beauty but you can make that decision. I didn't mean to delete this detail when changing info that I was just learning about the bell. Thanks WinterMoon

I really love this bell even though I didn't know it was a "elephant bell" but since I don't have an elephant and there are no tigers in the neighborhood it has to find a new home. My house to much too full and I have to make room for my Daddy that I have brought to live with me. Enjoy your comments so keep on talking. Don't care what you talk about on my auctions as long as everyone is playing nice! HA HA

Supposedly these types of bells were worn by elephants to keep the Tigers away. This bell is often called a tiger bell.

youthguy I just checked out your auctions... Are you a watch repairman? You have a lot of cool watches. I am looking for one for my Dad (he wants night light with EASY to find button for it and DIGITAL)...any suggestions or do you have anything like that?

Some refer to these as elephant bells since the elephants are actually wearing the bell.

Now, I really wish I would not have put it up for auction! My parents have always gone on missionary trips, building clinics, schools and churches and they have many, many pictures of the wildlife where ever they went. One particular one is a baby elephant that lost it's mother and would follow them around. My Mom (has Passed away) especially had a love for these animals. My Dad would joke that her favorite color was "cheetah".
May I ask how you knew about this bell? Just curious! Anyway thank you so much for this information.
