I am offering 2 PB books in this auction, winner gets both books. The first book is titled Plain Tales from the Hills by Rudyard Kipling, copyright 1993. It is one of the classic works of Kipling's precocious youth, and the stories evoke the light, the smells and unchanging atmosphere of India.
The feuds, the flirtations and the petty concerns of hill station and barrack room are beautifully described - the outrageous Mrs. Hauksbee, the devil-may-care anarchy of Privates Mulvaney, Ortheris and Learoyd and the accurate social observation all contribute to ironic humour of Kipling at his best. This pb book is is used but great condition.
The second pb book offered is titled, The Food of the Gods by H.G.Wells, copyright 1967. This book is also in used condition and shows ware on the cover with tears along the edges and has a ink scribbling on inside jacket. It is 254 pages long, and is one of Wells' great early masterpieces of science fiction. Description: It all began with the research of two scientists, Mr. Bensington an Professor Redwood, into the principles of growth in living matter. the fruit of their labors was a substance known by several names...the more academic was Herakleophorbia IV, but their own private term was "The Food of the Gods," because of its very special properties.... it gets more interesting/weird according to who/what consumes the "Food".
