Description

The listing, Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot Deck has ended.

The Thoth Tarot is a divinatory tarot deck painted by Lady Frieda Harris according to instructions from the author, Aleister Crowley. Crowley referred to this deck as The Book of Thoth.

Crowley originally intended the Thoth deck to be a six-month project aimed at updating the traditional pictorial symbolism of the tarot. However, the project ultimately spanned five years (1938 - 1943) as its scope grew ever wider. Aleister Crowley and Frieda Harris were meticulous in their work, and Harris painted some of the cards over and over until Crowley approved.

The illustrations of the Thoth deck are rich in symbolism, based upon Crowley's stated desire to incorporate symbols from many disparate disciplines; including science and philosophy, as well as to draw on his extensive knowledge of various occult systems. For example, the pip cards in the four suits (Wands, Cups, Swords, and Disks) depict their objects in carefully-crafted positions; for example, the Four of Swords (which Crowley named "truce") shows four swords with their points toward the center of an imaginary square, suggesting a possibly tense peace.

The card illustrations are uniformly stark and vividly illustrated throughout.

This deck has been opened but never used. Still sits in the original plastic wrapping, although opened. The cards are in pristine condition, the box has two very small superficial spots on it. These are the large cards, not the small sized as pictured. 78 card deck. 3.75" x 5.50" cards.
There is no instruction booklet with this deck.

Hi - you say it's not the small deck pictured.... does the box look the same? What printing is it (what's the date on it)?

The box looks the same, just doesn't say small card deck. There's no printing date on the box, I bought the cards back in the early 1980s.

Often the individual cards say in tiny print along the edges. The booklet might have it too. It will give the publisher and year. Would you mind checking for me?

(Yours is probably either AG Müller or U.S. Games, I'd guess.)

Published and distributed by U.S. Games, Inc. The only date I see on any of the cards is copyright 1978. There is no booklet with these cards, as I stated in the description. I don't want you to buy them with the impression that there is one.
