Big and beautiful. Easy care plant. Tolerates almost all soils except perhaps heavy clay. Up to 8 feet tall and 5 feet wide. Drought tolerant but if they start to "weep" give them a good soaking. Great for a living fence. Keeps most things unwanted out and the wanted in. A great put off for would be thieves. A fantastic plant for pollinators.
They are not called thistles for nothing. They are extremely pricky. However, that is part of their beauty and usefulness.
They can even have mini outdoor lights put on them for a really awesome night time display.
Growing:
~Any soil but heavy clay
~Occaisional watering if droopy/weeping.
~Wear gloves when dead heading flower heads going to seed. This IS A MUST unless you want them all around. I grab a bag and clip away. Takes hardly any time at all.I give a really good amount of seed that is still attached to the silken fluff. Of course, some seed will become dislodged from the fluff.
