Description
The listing, Early 1920s ONLY A LINEMAN poem & humor Early social media personal introduction card has ended.
Offered is an approximately 3" by 4 1/2" card with the poem "Only a Lineman" that appears to refer to a telephone lineman rather than football.
This poem became popular in the 1920s and was even used for some funerals and obituaries at the time and became the back of interesting individual cards.
This example shows an R. B. HOFFMAN Ragtime Millionaire of Katonah, N.Y. New York as a "Let's Get Acquainted" handout card. It also has a signature that I am unable to recognize that appears to be Bill Proffit or Profuliet (perhaps you can identify it as a sports star or other individual).
These cards may have been the introductory handouts of their day. Interesting piece of social media history.
Questions & Comments
Very nice piece. I want it ! I will bid and fan you.
Thank you. Returned the fan favor. Acquired this years ago with old baseball stadium tickets. Web search shows the poem used in a 1923 St. Petersburg newspaper obituary. The autograph is a mystery and may lead to some further interest and value (if you can decipher the surname).
