Description

The listing, Vintage cameo locket necklace has ended.

This necklace belonged to my mom; she was 92 years old when she passed away last year. I assumed that this is antique, but I am not sure. Gold tone, no marking. I don't know what the cameo and the red stone behind it are made of.

I was told anything over a 100 yrs. old is Antique and over 50 yrs. is Vintage. Not sure if that is true or not. I know I laugh sometimes when I see things listed under Antique and is 10 or 15 yrs. old. :)

I don't know what make an item antique. I just know that it is old. My mom had it for as long as I can remember.

If it is an antique the cameo and red stone are the same material. They are made by taking a piece of semi-precious stone or shell that is two toned and cutting away at the lighter tone to produce the image.
