The listing, 4 Pink Lady Apple Seeds Plus 6 Granny Smith! has ended.
*** Winner will receive 4 Pink Lady, and 6 Granny Smith apple seeds ***
Pink Lady is an Australian cross-bred variety of apple, requiring only 200-400 "chill hours" (between 45 and 32 Degrees Fahrenheit) to start the fruit bearing cycle.
It has a very nice rich, sweet flavor which is a little like a pear.
Like the Granny Smith Pink Lady will keep a long time before becoming mealy. My son brought me one over a month ago and it was still yummy when I cut it up to eat!
Pink Lady is best grown in zones 8a - 10b.
Granny Smith Apples are best grown in zones 5-9.
Growing instructions:
Some sources say that only 30% of your seeds will germinate. (However, I did try some Granny Smith seeds by putting them in a plastic container filled with water and 8 out of the 10 I experimented with sprouted quite quickly in just a few days).
1) wrap seeds in a damp paper towel and put into a sealed ziplock plastic bag and put into the refrigerator.
(Seeds take about a month to germinate, but check them ever few weeks and if needed moisten the paper towels again).
2) Seeds will be ready to plant when you see white sprouts coming out the pointy end. Plant seeds 1-2 inches deep in a pot filled with compost.
3) In order to ensure your trees will produce apples they must be grafted. Wait until your apple trees are about 1-2 feet high before you do this.
There are many different methods of grafting apple trees but the "Whip and Tongue" graft is thought to work best.
A) Get a piece of wood (Scion wood) from the variety of apple you want.
B) Next, cut down at an angle on wood.
C) Then make an identical cut on the apple tree.
Next, cut downwards on the sliced wood. Do this on both tree and scion wood (the stick at the top).
D) Then push together and wrap with cling wrap and then masking tape.
