It reads size A. On the back it gives sizes of Bust - 30 1/2 to 46 ? ? ?

Simplicity size A, generally is for sizes 6-8. Hope this helps!

6 - 8 is not the same size as 'ready to wear' garments. I googled this and I could find nothing that told me what size A is. I always thought the measurements they put on the back was what the pattern pieces allow. ? ? ? Still confused even after a Google search!
