30 collected from the wild Humulus lupulus or american hop seeds. These seeds require a 5-6 month cold moist stratification for proper germination. Winter sowing often works as well. You may or may not get hops cones as the resulting plants may be male or female. Female plants usually produce hops cones the second or third year but it is dependent upon growing conditions. Not recommended in the south or where there is not a seasonal cold spell with a corresponding change in day length. Great simply as an ornamental for covering a fence or arbor. The resulting cones from female plants may be suitable for brewing with some experimentation.
