What I do when the expanders are too long is button it where it needs to be and then fold them back and button again. :)

I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. I assume you could buy elastic and make your own. Children eventually grow into items and are less likely to lose weight (in my personal experience) one of the reasons I posted this on listia I can not fix them so instead of trying to sell them for money I am giving them away and offering to pay for shipping. Again I'm sure that if this is of trouble you can research online. If that is not convenient If you are not outbid I would be happy to relist with no repercussion or bad rating thanks again and sorry

That instead of having to cut the elastic and prevent you from trying to fix it you can just put the button in the right space the fold back the elastic and button again. I wasn't complaining. Was just trying to be helpful. Truly sorry if I came off the wrong way. I want these jeans. I love them and can make them work. Again I'm sorry .
