You can take pictures and store them in the gallery, without a carrier, but I do not know if you can upload them to a computer, I would assume you can.

How would you describe the condition of the screen - the back - the edges?

I would say it is in very very good condition, I had a screen protector on it so the screen has maybe 2 very minor scratches, (NO cracks) the edges and back are also in very very good condition as they were protected with a case.

Usually the one under the battery is the SIM card and the one on the side would be the SD

Actually your right the SIM card is under the battery and the SD card goes in the side slot. Sorry I wasn't sure. So it has the SIM card.
