Description

The listing, Aunt Jemima Cookie Jar Cobalt Blue with Strawberries has ended.

The Brayton Laguna Mammy cookie jar was first designed and offered in Laguna, CA in the mid 1940's. She remains one of the most iconic images of the 1950's and is a valuable and highly sought collectible. This design was a kitchen staple from 1940 until well into the 1970's.

At StoryBook Ceramics we make hand crafted vintage style ceramics. Sometimes we end up with test pieces, or one of a kind items that are functionally perfect, but can't be sold with our normal items on our website.

This lovely lady was a test piece for a new decal, and a skin tone test. The cobalt blue dress color is difficult to photograph, but is an amazing rich dark blue color. This is a big cookie jar, standing about 12 inches tall. She has 23k gold earrings and buttons, and is fully glazed inside and out, washable, and food safe.

I'm so glad you like our work! Thanks for visiting our website.

If you do decide to order from us in the future, please keep in mind that it normally takes about 14 days to complete an item for shipping, so if you want to order for a specific date, the more time you can give us to work on your order, the better.

We're a small studio and around holidays, especially Christmas, we get unbelievably backed up, and production times for some items can take much longer than usual. We usually have to end up turning some of them most popular items off around mid November because of backlog.

I'm doomed. I just looked at your website and can see I will be adding to my collection. You have so many of the items I grew up with including my beloved Hull pottery. I now have a account and going to be ordering. Great family history and I love all the ethnic blends. I know where I will be shopping for Christmas!!

Thank you, I will check out the studio. I take old wooden furniture and rehab it by painting it with a theme and never do two of the same. I just did a Romeo and Juliet one that I added a cameo to. it looked like the balcony with ivy up the sides and the cameo was Juliet. It turned out great. I hope to one day open a store that has items from the past and present but also items made by people and a place to come to create. A little bit of everything. I have shelves in my art room that have things that inspire me. This is perfect. Thanks~Jen

Our studio is in Wagener, SC (very, very rural small town in western South Carolina), so we don't have a physical retail location. There literally aren't enough people near here to bother with a "real" store front.

You can find us at www.storybookceramics.com (www.storybookceramics dot com, if the link is broken). We've been online about eight years.

Bottle trees.... those are so interesting. In the deep south we still have clusters of people who still live the old ways, especially in the deep rural no-where-lands where I am. You can see some amazing things out here in the "sticks".

Okay where do I find the art studio. I love old pottery pieces and just found a cookie jar from Hall pottery that dates back to the 20's. Also do you know anything about bottle trees? I just read a book that had one and they are from the Carolinas and also have quite a history. I also enjoy old Haeger pottery that I have. I just keep adding to my collection of fun items. Thanks Jen

I own and operate an art pottery studio that specializes in American mid century design reproduction pottery and also original designs (you can google the name from the description of the jar). A test piece is a fully created item used to test either the mold design itself, underglaze colors or glazes we are considering for the piece, or fired decals that we might use for the item. When designing a new piece of ceramics for the website, we will often have quite a few test pieces as we narrow down the look we are trying to achieve. There's nothing at all wrong with them functionally.
