Description

The listing, Chest has ended.

Mint condition chest,w/ some scratches and dents on it!Nice item to put items in whether it's jewelry or what etc.It has a picture of a vase w/ flowers on the top of it,has engraved designs on the top and sides. Not sure if this was a cigar box ,or just a chest. The fancy designed leg came off,but the footing is still there for all 4 sides!!(view the 1st pic larger to see that the right footing is off from the front of it.)Other then that, its a nice item.
Questions & Comments
Original
When my mother and grandmother were High school seniors (even my sister in '72) graduating girls would be invited down to furniture stores to look at cedar "Hope Chest". Cedar Chests like the one you are offering were given to these "shoppers" whether or not they bought a hope chest or not. All three of them... my grandmother, mother and sister, ended up buying one. I think my mother still has her miniture "give-away" and keeps old family photos in it (she will be 79 this month), don't know if my sister has either one, but I have my grandmother's full size one and I have promised it to my daughter. This brings back a lot of memories. Glad you brought it to the listia community to consider.

Per wikipedia, mint condition is, "Mint condition is often used to describe a collectible item ... that ... is as good as new without any scratches or other damage."

Ok,first of all wiki isn't a reliable source, you can beg to differ, but that's the truth!!Second,if you want to criticize someone, don't b/c it's not working.Third, why gripe about something if you don't planning on bidding on it!! What to make me look bad?!?!

Sincerely,
Ms. Webster!

I have a box very similar to this one that belonged to my grandmother, tho mine is a little larger in demension. I had considered listing it for auction, but after hearing something about how these boxes came about, I think i have decided to hang onto mine and pass it on to one of my daughters... maybe ill win this one and come across another to give to my other 2 girls... lol

I have my hope chest still from when I was 16 and that is along time ago. I never knew about these boxes so it was interesting to learn. I like to find wood items and fix them up and this is lovely. I am watching and bidding.

could you please share pictures of the inside of the box??? You can ask Listia to upload them if you can't update it any other way..

To me.. the inside is as important as the outside of the box.

this is a very lovely piece and I am watching it and fanned you... however I do find it funny that it says "mint condition with scratches, dents, and the leg came off"... I read that and was like... hmmmmm.... mint condition apparently doesn't mean what I thought it did... =P
