do you know if it is a 478 pin cpu

Good question, so I Google'd it.

Apparently it's a "Socket M", and that has 478 pins, so yes.

Do you know what type of mother board you have? I'd check to make sure this CPU will work with whatever chipsets it has.

No problem. I always try to give as much information as I can when I list something, especially computer parts. That way people will know ahead of time if it will work for them.

Your welcome! On the CPU itself it says 420,then it's a 1.6GHz/512/480.My computer is a Dell Inspiron 530S desktop. The mother board is a G33

The CPU you said you have (the 420) is a newer model, and uses a different socket then the one I have listed here. In other words, it won't fit into the motherboard you have.

Also, it looks like you have a 64-bit system, this is a 32-bit CPU. It wouldn't work, sorry to report. You need to find a 64-bit CPU that will fit into the "LGA775" socket.

Intel's website (your current CPU specs):

http://ark.intel.com/products/29734/Intel-Celeron-Processor-420-(512K-Cache-1_60-GHz-800-MHz-FSB)

Also keep in mind, and AMD processor won't work on a motherboard made for use with an Intel one. I use to have a computer that could use both, but that was a REALLY old machine. It think it was a socket 6 with 32 MB of RAM? I don't quite remember.

Yeah kinda figured it wouldn't work.My system is 32-bit,not 64-bit.Ok thanks!
