The listing, BALTIC AMBER DISC NECKLACE has ended.
LARGE AND VERY THICK Baltic amber disc to be hung on cord or used for? From my mother's estate, this is pre 1995 as she was disabled that year on, but it could be as early as 1970's because she loved jewelry/rock hound shows when I was growing up.
I performed various tests on the amber to ensure it isn't plastic or copal with the site having the most tests being http://www.rockhounds.com/rockshop/trueamber.shtml.
The following tests were performed:
1. Acetone test. Fake amber will melt. I poured pure acetone nail polish on it and nothing happened. It remains smooth.
2. Flouresce test. If held under a black light, true amber will flouresce a light blue. We have a black light flash light to watch for scorpions here in Las Vegas, and I used it in a dark room. It immediately turns blue (difficult to see in picture)
3. Static electricity test. If true amber is rubbed vigorously on a soft cloth, it can pick up small pieces of paper...which it did.
There are other tests, but some involve damaging the amber by using heat and I didn't want to do that.
