Description

The listing, 2008 one rupee coin from India (Thumb up version) has ended.

2008 one Indian Rupee coin with no visible mint mark

Kolkata mints has NO MINT MARKS.
First established in 1757 and located near old fort ( now Kolkata GPO ) Kolkata mint ( then Calcutta ) relocate twice and finally constructed at Alipore in 1952 which is its current location.

The “bread and butter “ one rupee coins , with a constant message of laying stress on food production, over the past six decades , had been replaced by newer themes of “Unity in Diversity” (2005 and 2006) and “A raised thumb representing the numeral “1”shown in a Dance mudra” by a lady’s hand, probably in a Bharat Natyam pose( 2007 onwards). The Regulators are probably passing on a message to users , that, the country is now quite self sufficient in food production, therefore, a constant reminder to “grow more food” is not required now. Also, the Thumbs-up sign is, probably a signal for the country to look forward to the next phase of development.

As regards the symbols,”1” being represented by the raised thumb in one rupee coins and a “V” sign in two rupee coins, the coin designers, also, had in mind to help out visually challenged users, too, so as to, help them “read” the values of these coins, with these raised images . These coins were designed with the blind in mind, but they’re also useful for the numerically illiterate (just count the fingers.).

Pulled from circulation. See pictures for details on condition. This is a very nice coin.
