Description
The listing, Little Known Victorian Pocket Melons has ended.
You will love these curious little melons. About the size of a golf ball but melon shaped and with stripes. You can use these little melons on gourmet trays. Slice thinly and don't peel. Taste is between a cucumber and a watermelon with a light taste and smell of lemon. Lots of fun to grow and drought tolerant. Been around for hundreds of years. The ladies of the Victorian era carried some around in their apron pocket for the pleasing smell. Seeds are tiny but prolific. Grow similar to cucumbers. Will grow on the ground or on a fence or trellis.
Questions & Comments
Great auction! Are these the same as what is called a plum granny melon? Thanks
Yes, according to what I've found on the Internet, they are called plum granny by some of the people in Kentucky and Tennessee. They have several names and have been around for a long time.
Thanks, I thought that's what they were. I used to grow them but didn't save any seeds so I don't anymore. How many seeds are in this listing? They really do smell great and I always liked keeping them around the house in the fall with my other fall decorations. I really need to get some more. Thanks for offering these. :-)
I'll put plenty of seeds in the package 10-15 will supply you for a couple of years. Two or three plants will run all over your garden. Also Keep two or three ripe ones and cure the seeds for the next year. Just treat them the same way you would curing tomato seeds. Put the seeds in a glass cup or jar on the counter. Change the water every day for about 4-5 days, rinse and dry.
