Hi G.A. Hope you've been doing very well. OK here, I did have a little question. Is this type of Moonstone at all, in or from the Labradorite family of gemstones? Thanks! EV (=
Yes, the two are in the same 'Feldspar' family. Moonstone is composed of two feldspar species, orthoclase and albite. The two species are intermingled. Then, as the newly formed mineral cools, the intergrowth of orthoclase and albite separates into stacked, alternating layers. When light falls between these thin, flat layers, it scatters in many directions producing the phenomenon called adularescence. Labradorite occurs in mafic igneous rocks and is the feldspar variety most common in basalt and gabbro.
Thank You so very much and how Fascinating! I'm watching this one for sure. . . I've never really been a fan of Labradorite or Moonstone, but wow, this particular Moonstone is just Magnificently Gorgeous! Thank You so very much again! Ur Friend, EV (=
Moonstone is family with my birth month. I just think it's an absolutely amazing gemstone. I have several pieces of jewelry, just won 2 Rainbow Moonstone ovals for a ring mounting here on Listia, and would LOVE to add this piece to my collection. Wow, you have outdone yourself. ;)
