Pride of Barbados is a common plant in the Southwest USA. It is a heat loving plant. In cooler climates it will be a shrub. In warmer climates it can grow into a tree. In very cold climates it can be grown as an annual. It is fast growing and very beautiful.

These get about 3 to 4 feet tall on average and about 2 to 3 feet wide. I have never seen these take over. I harvest the seeds though. If you allow the seeds to blow everywhere, they may likely root.. So harvest your seeds and there will be no problems.

I remove the pods before they open and fall. If you don't want to collect seeds, you can remove the pods as they develop.
