Will this bamboo thrive in a colder climate, such as zone 7, which is where I now live in northeast TN? Is it a true bamboo or is it a cane? I have canes growing around my ponds is why I ask. Thanks!

I really don't know. It's been growing here for 20 years, the cane portion has never gotten hard enough to build with, so I would call it a cane, but was sold to me thru a catalogue as variegated bamboo.
