SNAPDRAGON TALL, MIXED COLORS:

Step 1

Plant your tall snapdragons in full sunlight or light shade, in well-drained soil. Till the soil to break up clumps and amend the soil with compost or peat moss if the soil is heavy or clay.

Step 2

Spread a 1- or 2-inch layer of organic mulch around the tall snapdragons to prevent weeds from growing and to retain soil moisture.

Step 3

Stake the tall snapdragons to prevent them from breaking. Insert a wooden garden stake 3 inches from the stem and tie the stem to the stake with soft string or strips of cloth.

Pinch off spent flowers to encourage re-blooming. When the tall snapdragon plant is young, just after the first four to six leaves emerge, pinch back the plant's stem to encourage it to grow bushy.

Step 5

Feed your tall snapdragons in the early spring with an all-purpose organic fertilizer. Follow the directions on the label for dosage.

Step 6

Harvest the seeds of your tall snapdragons for planting the following year. Allow the last flowers to fade on the plant instead of picking them off. Attach a small paper bag around the flower heads to catch the seeds as they fall off. Then, cut the stem at the base of the snapdragon plant and shake the seed head in the bag to remove the seeds from their casings.
