The listing, Vintage Antique Victorian Leather Baby Shoe with Buttons So Adorable! has ended.
Up for consideration is a sweet little baby or toddler shoe from the late 1800s. This Victorian shoe has a four button closure and a little flower detail at the front. It was made with different pieces of leather which were stitched together including the sole which is very thick and sturdy.
There are definite condition issues as one would expect with an item that is over 115 to 130 years old. The stitching has come undone near the flower and there some some dents at the toe. The leather at the ankle part of the shoe has ripped along the right side--see the last photos. There is a fabric lining which is also ripped. There are tissues stuffed in the shoe to keep its shape, and you can see a bit of the tissues sticking out.
I've been displaying the shoe with the left side facing out and it looks just fine. That side is more interesting anyway since it has the buttons. I just keep thinking of the little foot that wore this shoe once (probably more than one--I'm sure it was handed down to the next child). I wonder where that foot lived and where it walked everyday. I'll never know, of course, but I like to keep the doorway to the past open. It's important to remember those who came before us.
This little shoe looks much better in person! My photos are very close up and show perhaps a little too much detail :-) I will try to get a photo that looks more like the shoe actually looks.
This item is being sold as-is. Please ask questions and examine the photos carefully before you bid. Shipping is free to Listia verified addresses only. Thanks for viewing my auction--there's more on the way!
