It can be used for anything that fits in that hole :-) pen or cigarette , or whatever your creative come-up with .... I got them as mini gifts for my sons teachers - but anything works ::-) please note - the hole is all the way through ...

Not sure what was the main purpose - the guy who sold to us said its for putting out cigarettes... But it didn't come with a label specifically saying that.
