Antique Ivory? Ring Purse--1890 to 1910
This Reticule, postcard purse, or ladies small bag, is what a lady would have carried in the late 1800's and Into the early 1900's. Especially in the south were people were poor farmers and couldn't afford to buy store bought and not having TV's they would spend there nights making things. This came from a lady in her 80's about 12 years ago who said her Grandmother made this when she was in her late teens to go to dances.
It is a hand crochet 5 in by 4in bag which is embellished with Ivory colored rings. I don't know for sure, but I put one of the rings between my teeth and it felt more like stone or a pearl feel, and definitely not plastic. Could it be Ivory? It has yellowed to an Ivory color...like the rings and it hangs from a cord. It is in excellent shape for its age. I can safely say it is about 100 years old or more.
