I go to a doctor in Virginia and they have an Oldtown also. Our Oldtown is because the Opessa indian tribe lived here many years ago and when they moved to a new place they call this area Oldtown, There is a lot of history here and I love to read about it. The C&O canal is a little over a mile from me. They used to travel up and down the canal to bring supplies with mules pulling the boat over the canal and locks from Cumberland to Washington, DC There are little lock houses all down the canal where the people who opened and closed the locks lived, The first white settler was Michael Cresap (George Washington's friend) built the first house in Oldtown. It still stands because it is made of stone and is a museum. George used to stay there when he traveled this area doing surveying, It surprised me how small the beds were because the people were much smaller then. George's bed is in the museum. I love all the history. Our street is named after Michael Cresap and the mill stream runs through our property and goes into the Potomac River.
