This was used on an old computer that didn't have the WiFi option to it. It works great even though the need for it is nearly obsolete.

It certainly boosted my WiFi. When I couldn't get reception at the back of the house, with this I could.

So after the last question I googled and find that this is a modem ? All I know is that it did help when I was in a location that received little signal.

Well it didn't boost your built in WiFi, at best it simply replaced the built in WiFi. (Windows cannot utilize two simultaneous connections to speed up your network connection. That requires specialized, and expensive, software .)

But didn't you say that your laptop had no WiFi built in? In that case, it simply added WiFi ability to your laptop.
