It's beacause they have placed a bid higher than yours earlier... listia explains it well, there's a little blue (why?) next to "you have been outbid"

tinalott, the guy who bid higher than you did it earlier. When he "bid" an amount far above the current bid, he pretty much told Listia how much he was willing to go UP TO. When you put your bid in, Listia automatically placed a bid for him and so you were outbid.

you go to their profile or auction, and under their user name it say how many fans they have and there is a button that say "become a fan" click it and there you have fanned :)
